The Searzall

The Searzall

The Searzall certainly does what it says on the label. Invented by chef David Chang and author-gastronaut Dave Arnold, it attaches to a blowtorch to turn it into a handheld griller by diffusing the flame and removing the tang of propane, giving you 15,000 BTUs of even heat (more than twice what your stove can manage at home). Though the original idea was to use it to brown meat that had been cooked sous-vide, chefs are finding all sorts of uses for it, whether in restaurants, at home or even at the bar, as Luke Ashton demonstrates here, at Sydney’s This Must Be the Place.

Bluesmart

Bluesmart

Smart luggage is now upon us. The features of a smart suitcase are hard to pass up: digital scales, phone chargers, tracking devices, all co-existing to create a seamless travel experience. Starting the trend is Bluesmart, but it shouldn’t be long before French luggage company Delsey puts its “Pluggage” prototype on the market. So, can we say goodbye to that dreaded wait around the carousel? Here’s hoping.

House of Hackney

House of Hackney

East London label House of Hackney, originally a luxury interiors brand, has expanded its print frenzy into clothing, travel accessories and fine bone china tableware. All made in England, signature prints such as the Hamptons-esque Palmeral or romantic Chinese-red peony cover everything from wallpaper to bed linen, and print-on-print is encouraged. Collaborations with Puma and William Morris & Co are on the cards for mid-2015. All grey skies and beige beds in England? Not at this house.
