The health and wellness industry has never been bigger, and while we’d all love to make it an everyday priority, it’s during our travels that it really gets our full focus. As our appetite for self-care grows and evolves, so do the offerings in the world of hospitality. Transformative travel has emerged as a strong trend, where holidays aren’t just a time out, but an opportunity for major change, whether physically, spiritually or mentally. At the other end of the spectrum, hotels are making it their business to champion wellbeing during business travel. And in between, there are ancient rituals, luxury fashion houses hosting haute retreats and more.

Aman New York, New York, USA

Go for: An elite athlete’s fitness secrets

In recruiting tennis legend Maria Sharapova as global wellness ambassador, Aman is putting fitness firmly at the heart of its approach. Individually designed to complement each Aman location, Sharapova’s program makes its debut at Aman New York, where the luxury quarters offer respite from the city that never sleeps. Combined with an optimised performance breakfast, the half-day program includes a strength and conditioning session created by the grand slam winner, followed by a Banya sauna or Hammam treatment, rounded out with reflexology and a skin mask in the hotel’s private spa. If the workout element isn’t your idea of a holiday, there’s plenty of less intense sanctuary to be found in the 2300 square metres of space dedicated to wellbeing, from the cryotherapy chamber to infrared body rolls.

The Beverly Hills Hotel, Los Angeles, USA

Go for: a red carpet-ready facial

In a city that’s a magnet for some of the most photographed people in the world, it’s not surprising that wellness is taken seriously. At one of the most recognisable and famed hotels in the 90210 postcode, the spa has a series of exclusively curated facials. Recline under the careful instructions of celebrity aesthetician Angela Caglia, whose clients include Barbra Streisand, Helena Christensen and Riley Keough; or luxuriate in a Marilyn Monroe massage, an ode to the star’s visits in her heyday that also incorporates the not-so-retro trend of CBD oil into the treatment.

With the tropical haven of Malolo Island as the backdrop, guests can expect twice-daily Pilates sessions, hot and cold plunges, sound healing and sunrise hikes. Combined with morning tonics, daily juices and garden-to-plate lunches, this is as much about culinary nourishment as it is movement, to ensure all your planks and V sits are aptly fuelled.

Embark on a Balinese spiritual purification ritual or replenish at the open-air Toja spa.
