Travellers seeking boutique digs in Brisbane’s inner-city New Farm are spoilt for choice with the opening of Balfour Suites, two doors away from Spicers Balfour Hotel, a restored Queenslander with nine rooms. There are eight Art Deco-inspired suites in the two-storey 1920s “Simla”, one of the city’s rare purpose-built apartment blocks of the period. The 18-month renovation includes a 60-seat function room and a pocket-sized communal guest bar with balcony overlooking Balfour Street. Suites are nicely detailed, with a palette of creams, greys and blues and pops of violet, and at about 38 square metres with separate sunrooms, they’re perfect for longer stays.
Suites cost from $459, with breakfast and parking. Spicers Balfour Hotel and Suites, 37 Balfour St, New Farm, Qld.
