World View: Joffre Gorge, Western Australia

The force of nature is evident in the spectacular rock formations found in Karijini National Park in Western Australia. Photographer Jessica Wyld takes in the view.

“Nothing can prepare you for the enormousness of the crevasses and gorges in Karijini, a vast wilderness area in the Hamersley Range in the state’s remote north. Standing alone on the edge of the gorge, I felt awed by the power of nature and humbled by how very small I am in the scheme of things.

“This image was taken just as the sun dipped below the horizon, leaving the stepped rocks glowing with colour after a hot day under a cloudless sky. The silence was deafening, until a chorus of frogs struck up as I was shooting.”
