Classical mountain sounds

The Metropolitan Orchestra will take to the mountains this year for a series of classical performances.

Overlooking the tree-filled Megalong Valley in the heart of the Blue Mountains, the recently refurbished Hydro Majestic Hotel will be filled with the sounds of The Metropolitan Orchestra this year, with the launch of the Majestic Concert Series.

Presenting partner Vittoria Coffee’s general manager, Les Schirato, is a huge supporter of the performing arts in regional Australia, and is more than enthusiastic about the two concerts remaining in the series, taking place on June 18 and November 19. “We need to ensure people in the city have reason to travel out to regional areas,” he says. “These concerts are a great reason to make a weekend of it, the orchestra is just spectacular.”

Conducted by founding artistic director and chief conductor of the Metropolitan Orchestra, Sarah-Grace Williams the dynamic ensemble will be preceded by canapés and cocktails and will then play over dinner in the Hydro’s Grand Majestic ballroom. The series is the first time a group of classical musicians of this size has gathered in the Blue Mountains, bringing with them the sounds of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and more.
