Throughout July, baristas and roasters from Single O, Sensory Lab, Five Senses and more are hosting masterclasses on all things coffee as part of The Rocks Aroma Festival.
Beginning Monday 11 July, the two-week festival aims to showcase the art, science and processes behind each coffee from harvest to take-away cup.
Whether you don’t know your macchiato from your magic flat white or you’re curious about where the beans in your latte come from, the Australian Speciality Coffee Association’s (ASCA) crash courses on coffee culture will whip you up to speed. Highlights include an introduction to comparative cupping, where baristas evaluate and score roasts by aroma and taste, as well as a how-to for home brewed coffee and a latte art workshop.
The Aroma Festival caps off on Sunday 24 July with a free day-long affair sprawled across The Rocks overlooking Sydney Harbour. Wander between the markets with a batch brew in hand, talk all things single-origin with baristas from Pablo & Rusty’s, Sensory Lab and Double Roasters or attend an ASCA-run coffee tasting.
Or, if you can command crema with a tilt of the wrist into rosettas and swans, challenge a friend on stage at the latte art competition. Live music and performances will entertain throughout the day, as will classes on how to make caffeinated cocktails.
The Rocks Aroma Festival runs from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 July. To book tickets for classes or to view the full line-up of events, visit The Rocks’ website.
