The Sydney Italian Wine + Food Festival

Bringing together the best of Italian wine, produce, pasta and Negronis.

The Italian Wine + Food Festival returns for its third year to Sydney to celebrate Italy’s rich range of fine wines and food.

A host of events and regional flavours from Sicily to Trentino will take over Sydney Town Hall on Sunday 21 August for a day of cooking demonstrations, mozzarella- and pasta-making workshops and sommelier-led wine tastings, segueing into party mode come evening.

Highlights include cooking demonstrations and food talks by Giovanni Pilu of Pilu at Freshwater and Federico Zanellato of LuMi among others, as well as an olive oil workshop by Pendolino head chef Nino Zoccali, and, of course, Gourmet Traveller’s own Food Market. Food stalls will feature plates from Otto, Aperitivo and Osteria Russo & Russo among others.

More than 200 drops of Italy’s finest and wines from Australian-grown Italian grapes will be poured throughout the day. Beginner wine-tasting tours with sommelier Matt Dunne will sort the Nebbiolos from the Vermentinos, while GT Wine writer Mike Bennie will host in-depth masterclasses.

There will also be beer tastings at the Menabrea Bar, a Negroni bar by Max Greco and fresh coffee by Italian roasters Espresso di Manfredi.

Throughout the day, Italian jazz musicians will warm up the wine garden, before a DJ takes over to spin Italian vinyls and classics into the evening.
