The sunshine state is set to score not one but two exciting new venues from chef-restaurateur Andrew McConnell and partner Jo McGann. Arriving at the luxe new Brisbane development located at 443 Queen Street, Bar Miette will see Jason Barratt on board as executive chef, following five years at Halcyon House and Raes on Wategos.

Today, Bar Miette announced it will open on Monday, 1 July, occupying a street-level, earthy-toned terrace space with ample alfresco dining alongside an indoor area — right by the Brisbane River and Story Bridge. Bar Miette is located on the riverfront strip connecting Howard Smith Wharves and Eagle Street, opening in a newly completed residential tower near Customs House.

Taking on an all-day European dining brief, Bar Miette will service Brisbanites with morning coffees through to lunchtime fare to snacks and cocktails in the evening. The venue can seat 16 at the inside bar and 70 on the piazza-style terrace, with the entire venue available for private functions, too.

“It’s a place for people to use as they wish and as the occasion dictates — for coffee and breakfast, lunch (early or late), snacks and dinner, a cocktail or a glass of wine — from its elevated vantage point overlooking the Maiwar (Brisbane) river and Story Bridge,” says restaurateur Andrew McConnell in a statement.

Joining the already announced and highly anticipated opening of Supernormal in Brisbane, both venues have been designed by ACME, who previously worked with McConnell and McGann on the interiors for Melbourne’s Apollo Inn and Gimlet.

McConnell has built an empire of award-winning Melbourne restaurants, including Gimlet, Cumulus Inc., Cutler & Co, Supernormal, Meatsmith and Morning Market. The openings of Supernormal Brisbane and Bar Miette mark the first interstate foray for McConnell’s restaurant group, Trader House.

As Brisbane’s dining scene continues to flourish, the Melbourne import will bring talent and skill from the Victorian capital while also celebrating the local climate, produce and people.

“Seeing what has been happening in the restaurant scene in Brisbane over the past few years has been great to watch, and now being a part of the city’s culinary growth at Supernormal and Bar Miette is really exciting,” said Barrett in a statement. He’ll be joined by venue manager Alex Tuckett, who most recently managed Frida’s Field, alongside Harvest at Newrybar and Pilu at Freshwater.

While Supernormal’s opening has been pushed back from its intended 2023 opening, both venues are slated to open mid-year 2024. Both will be housed in a luxury development at 443 Queens Street in the CBD. The property developers, Cbus Property, are the same group behind the original Supernormal site in Melbourne.

Bar Miette will open on Monday, 1 July, with reservations now open via barmiette.com. For more news on Supernormal Brisbane, stay up to date via the Trader House website.
