REVIEW

What if the ultimate hangover cure wasn’t greasy bacon or burgers? Meet some of the most vibrant, flavour-first Chinese in the city. It’s fresh and fast and you’ll find it at a revamped pub. The menu steers clear of oil and gloppy sauces. Oversized xiao long bao are way better than they need to be, with three times more soup to savour than others across town. Ditto gossamer potstickers full of spinach, garlic and chives. Never mind the pancakes: a crunchy sprout and cucumber salad, dialled up with pickled black fungus, is the perfect foil for crisp-skinned, juicy duck. Delicate garlic shoots and flowers, meanwhile, are bolstered by (yes!) schmaltz, and there’s nothing typical about the fried dessert of feather-light coconut ice-cream. From the smart bar and light-filled roof terrace, to the up-tempo playlist, fun cocktails and clever service – the package is en pointe.
