The Adelaide Marriott is part of the transformation of one of the city’s most treasured landmarks – the 152-year-old Adelaide General Post Office. Opening its doors in 2024, its leafy North Terrace location overlooks Victoria Square and is just steps away from key attractions. The sleek interiors blend mid-century style with a modernist twist, offering a refined stay for both business travellers and those wanting to immerse themselves in Adelaide’s vibrant arts and culture scene.
The rooms
There are 285 well-appointed rooms ranging from a generous 34sqm, including 10 Clock Tower Suites, one Sub-Penthouse, and the impressive 145sqm Presidential Suite. Set in a 14-story tower behind the original GPO building, all rooms and suites feature minimalist yet stylish furnishings, plush bedding, and muted tones that invite relaxation after a day of exploration or meetings. The design favours function without sacrificing flair, with considered touches such as spacious desks, well-stocked minibars, and contemporary bathrooms.
Food & drink
Penny Blue offers Modern Australian fine dining in a sophisticated setting, with nostalgic dishes including Spencer Gulf Prawn Cocktail and the signature Beef Wellington. For casual, all-day dining, The Bar at Exchange Lane offers a bright, sunlit setting while The Greatroom is ideal for remote working and meetings. Thanks to the central location, there are plenty of great dining options close by too.
The service
Adelaide Marriott staff are attentive, personable and professional. They know when to engage and when to allow guests their space. Book Penny Blue in advance to ensure you get a spot, or upgrade your stay to Suite or M Club Room to take advantage of the Executive Lounge.
Ideal for: A cosy weekend in the city
Why we love it:
- The location. The Adelaide Oval, Rundle Mall, Central Markets and Her Majesty’s Theatre are all within walking distance. Plus it’s only 15 minutes from the airport.
- Cocktails at Exchange Lane. Start the night with a Martini and some snacky plates, including Coffin Bay oysters and prawn and ginger gyoza.
- The artwork. Curated collections on every floor range from vast wall sculptures to archival photographs and culturally significant pieces by First Nations artists of the APY Gallery.
