When it comes to Perth accommodation doesn’t get much more West Australian than The Ritz-Carlton. The 28-storey tower sits on the banks of the Swan River, reflecting the water in its Argyle pink diamond-toned facade. In the grand foyer, a burnt-red painting by Indigenous artist Aileen Sandy depicts the blazing colours of the Kimberley, while a twisted metallic sculpture is fashioned from found objects around Elizabeth Quay. In Hearth restaurant, chef Brian Cole curates the state’s best produce from Shark Bay scallops to Wagin duck to muntries and sunrise limes. Everything feels gently and luxuriously of its place.
The rooms
Each of the 205 rooms and suites features wide oak floorboards, plush leather accessories and water, city or park views. Even the entry-level rooms include standalone egg-shaped baths and double vanities, plus wildly comfortable beds with Frette linens. The Studio King Rooms are the ones to book if views are your thing; they feature huge, corner windows overlooking the city and the lush Supreme Court Gardens.
Food & drink
Hearth restaurant serves one of the best buffet breakfasts in the city (the dumplings are excellent), and it’s worth booking the Taste of Hearth dégustation for dinner, with drinks beforehand at the rooftop Songbird Bar, where each signature cocktail is named after a local bird.
The service
Nothing is too much trouble at The Ritz-Carlton Perth, from a misplaced room key to arranging a conference with dozens of moving parts.
Ideal for: Holidaymakers and business travellers who appreciate international-level service
Why we love it:
- The location. Everything’s right on the doorstep, from the restaurants of Elizabeth Quay to Kings Park. You can even get ferries to Rottnest Island and Fremantle from the Barrack Street jetty.
- The afternoon tea. Perth has a strong afternoon tea culture, and few do it as well as The Ritz-Carlton. The Signature Afternoon Tea is served in Hearth restaurant and features a generous spread of savoury and sweet sandwiches, cakes, tarts and scones, served with Margaret River tea brand Seven Seas and Moët et Chandon.
- The pool and spa. Few things feel more luxurious than an outdoor, rooftop infinity pool, and the Ritz-Carlton takes theirs to the next level with its bonus river views. The spa is one of the city’s best, featuring no fewer than 13 massage options along with a range of beauty treatments and services using Biologique Recherche and LaGaia Unedited products. You can even book a hand or foot massage in conjunction with Afternoon Tea in Hearth.
