Excitement is building on Tamborine Mountain – and throughout the Scenic Rim region – led by impressive new boutique stays like The Tamborine. In 2023, Gina McNamara and Nina Aberdeen (of Cassis Red Hill) purchased The Tamborine Motel, originally built in 1978 as a Hacienda-style motel. Reopened in 2024, the hotel embraces its former life, while offering incredible mountain views, Palm Springs aesthetics and a heated mineral pool.

The rooms

All 23 rooms feature elegant timber, grey and white features with minimal adornments – a smart decision considering each room has its own terrace or balcony overlooking the view. And with scenery this stunning, the landscape rightfully takes centre stage. Ensuite bathrooms with Leif natural products and sustainability-focused features – including the use of renewable Queensland plywood – ensure every detail has been thoughtfully considered.

Food & drink

While there’s no on-site restaurant, ‘The Pantry’ in the lobby serves a selection of beverages, snacks, and wood-fired pizzas. Each evening, guests are invited to Peacock O’Clock, a complimentary drink service between 5–6pm. For dining nearby, Saint Marthe Brasserie and Mana Souvlaki are two impressive new additions to the area.

The service

The confident, laid-back staff are available when needed without intruding on your relaxing stay. Many grew up on the mountain, making them experts on local exploration – don’t hesitate to ask about their favourite hiking trails or places to visit.

Ideal for: Nature trips and romantic getaways

Why we love it:

  • The location. Tamborine Mountain is packed with things to see and do. A coffee plantation sits across the road, while wineries and distilleries are a short drive away.
  • The nature. Sitting on the lawn with a book and listening to the rainforest provides unparalleled tranquillity. For those keen to explore, numerous hiking trails offer a deeper connection to the landscape.
  • The pool. After a long rainforest walk, a soak in the mineral pool (with attached spa) is a fine reward. White sun lounges and olive umbrellas complete the idyllic relaxation setting.
