MasterQuiz puts a new spin on the taste test.
Think you know your prosciutto from your culatello? A Clare Valley riesling from an Eden Valley one? Next month, palates will be put to the test as GT wine editor Max Allen and regular contributor Richard Cornish hold a trivia night with a twist as part of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
Disappointed by the lack of competition at quiz nights now that most answers can be quickly Googled on phones, Allen and Cornish designed MasterQuiz to be an interrogation of the senses.
"They'll need to use their own tongues, noses and memories of eating and drinking to answer our questions," Allen says.
Each team will be asked to identify mystery wines, spirits, cheeses, cured meats and more as they battle it out for the inaugural Golden Tongue Award. The prize? A gold trophy in the shape of a tongue, of course.
For those who don't come out on top, there's consolation in the form of giveaways, mystery guests and pre-quiz canapés. Allen and Cornish will also be stocking the bar with some of their favourite drinks - the only ones on the night that don't require any guesswork.
The quiz night is dead. Long live the quiz night.
