Any baker worth their type 00 flour knows the name Dan Lepard. And most Melburnians would have felt the pull of Tivoli Road Bakery’s glossy pies and pastries. What do you get when you combine the two? A very tempting Saturday morning.

Lepard, the London-based cookbook author, baker and writer, will add seven creations to Michael and Pippa James’s usual menu for his special appearance at the South Yarra bakery on 7 July. A savoury Danish topped with potato, spinach, tomato and chermoula is joined by a sweet apple and cardamom variety and mini chocolate fudge cakes with marbled pistachio-chocolate icing. There’ll also be two types of bread – a beetroot focaccia and a carrot and turmeric sourdough – plus pasties filled with pumpkin, sesame and capsicum and “sausage” rolls of beetroot, garlic, walnut and black rice.

“The menu will focus on baking with fresh vegetables, herbs and oils in recipes that give you a double-serve of vibrant flavour and warmth,” Lepard says.

All profits from Lepard’s baked goods will go to Melbourne charity Emerald Hill Mission, where his sister works. The charity helps teenagers with textbooks, uniforms and travel fees, as well as operating a soup kitchen five days a week and offering counselling and other assistance.

Everything on Lepard’s menu for the one-day takeover is vegan, too. Now that’s a feel-good purchase.
