Locals have been trying to keep Kirra Beach a secret for decades. But with its rare north-facing aspect, squeaky white sand, and one of the best surf breaks in the country, it was only a matter of time before this quiet seaside town caught the eye of property developers.

This is our luxury guide to a weekend in Kirra Beach, Queensland.

Kirra Point Holiday Apartments

Enter KTQ Group (who previously brought us Elements of Byron) and its latest project, lifestyle precinct Kirra Point. Upstairs, that sees hotel comforts combined with apartment living, with luxury accommodation
that serves up sweeping ocean views from wraparound balconies. With a choice of generous one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, Kirra Point leans into its prime beachfront location with fresh, coastal interiors, finished with state-of-the-art technology, including Ilve and Smeg appliances throughout.

Downstairs, guests can soak up the sun poolside, where a 25-metre heated pool caters to those who prefer their dips sans sand. The precinct is home to both Kirra Beach Hotel, a classic Aussie pub refreshed for modern diners, and Kirra Beach House, which serves up relaxed coastal dining and sunset cocktails. All just a breezy 10-minute drive from Gold Coast Airport.

Breakfast

There’s only one way to start your day in this golden stretch of paradise and that is with an invigorating march along the boardwalk, followed by a post-promenade swim. Then and only then should you turn your attention to breakfast.

You’ll find a rollcall of breakfast standards at all of the local cafés but the dark horse standout comes hidden inside a furniture shop, called Cotton Living. Buried behind piles of plush cushions and scented candles, you’ll find a patisserie turning out perfectly golden, flaky delights.

Lunch

If you go to the Gold Coast and don’t dine at Rick Shores, were you ever really there? This Queensland icon is just a 15-minute drive from Kirra Beach but you’ll need to book well in advance to secure a coveted long lunch booking. For those keen to keep the car in the garage, Kirra Beach House serves up panoramic views alongside a fresh coastal menu on the terrace, or you can book your own private cabana for the afternoon and settle in till sunset.

Sitting right on the beachfront, next door to the surf club, you’ll find Siblings embracing the new elevated coastal vibes of Kirra Beach. With a menu that leans Mediterranean-by-way-of-Mexico, freshly caught Queensland seafood is the favourite child here.

Those willing to venture a little further afield will be richly rewarded in Burleigh Heads, where you’ll find this year’s Queensland state winner of Restaurant of the Year, Restaurant Labart. Bookings are essential but if you miss out, try popping up the road to its sister venue, Paloma, where you’ll find more delicious snacks and juicy drops.

Amplify the holiday glow with a rejuvenation session at Kirra Beach’s coastal bathhouse, Native State. Relaxation is the name of the game here, as you alternate between the heated vitality pool and cold plunge pool. An infrared sauna and steam room will help clear the toxins and offer hydrothermal healing, while a meditation lounge is the perfect spot for some quiet introspection.
