A respected elder of the Adelaide restaurant scene, Chianti has delighted diners with its consistent service for 30 years. Attention to detail runs from a gracious welcome to crisp white linen, gleaming glassware, filtered lighting and well-spaced tables. Sommelier Duncan Vent navigates you through little-known grape varieties such as kerner and pelaverga amid a broad selection of Italian wines and a smaller Australian list. An intelligent menu celebrates local ingredients in a diverse array of Italian dishes. Anchovies and capers add salty tang to fried lambs' brains. Smoked eel and walnuts bring a silky accent to fazzoletti pasta. Catalan-inspired red pepper and almond romesco lifts ricotta-stuffed fried zucchini flowers. Pancetta-wrapped roast saddle of rabbit loin is juicy and tender, although more assertive seasoning would be welcome. Desserts are light and refreshing - try a delicate pistachio panna cotta with balsamic-steeped strawberries.
