Room with a view? Sure. Private balcony with a view? Now you’ve got our attention. Starting 8 January, Bennelong at the Sydney Opera House will open its private balcony as a pop-up bar under the famous sails. And there’s no doubt about it, it’s the best view in town.
The Bennelong Balcony will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon in January from noon until late, and with a host of performances and events going on around the House as part of Sydney Festival, the 80-person venue might just be the perfect place to sip a drink before heading off to dinner or a show.
Bennelong bar manager Aaron Gaulke will wrangle the Spritz- and G&T-focused drinks menu, that will also include new summer cocktails such as the Just Fine and Dandy (Ketel One Vodka, Piper-Heidsieck Champagne, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, apricot brandy, cloudy apple juice and bitters), and Whispers on the Breeze (bianco vermouth, sauvignon blanc, elderflower liqueur, cucumber slices and lemon peel topped with soda). There’ll also be Piper-Heidsieck Champagne and bottles of Endeavour pale ale on offer, plus a short menu of small plates (hello Sydney Rock Oysters) to soak up the juice.
