As part of Vivid Sydney, Carriageworks is bringing back The Night Market, only this time with twice the number of food stalls in a much larger space for what will hopefully be a more pleasant experience than last time.
Appropriately themed to coincide with the world’s largest festival of light, the one-night-only market will focus on ‘Cooking with Fire’, with chef and owner of Sydney’s Firedoor, Lennox Hastie, helping to run the show.
Some of Sydney’s most recognised chefs will be grilling, smoking, roasting, baking and barbequing as they showcase local New South Wales produce in culturally diverse dishes at over 25 food stalls. O Tama Carey will dish up a smoked potato curry with fire roasted chilli pol sambol, Pierre Issa of Pepe Saya plans to douse corn on the cob with lashings of his smoked butter and the team from Icebergs Dining Room & Bar will build a brick fire pit to roast porchetta and, later, toast marshmallows for dessert. Hastie will also perform live demonstrations of cooking over flames.
Also at Carriageworks during the festival, Sydney Table returns for its second year with four dinners over four nights from guest chefs O Tama Carey, Clayton Wells, James Viles and Ben Sears, matched with creatives Tracey Deep, Saskia Havekes, Keiko Matsui and Tony Assness. Each chef will use produce from the Carriageworks Farmers’ Market, and all dishes are matched with Victorian wines. With a line-up like this, you’ll want to jump on those tickets.
