Lovers of Italian wine and fine food will be in their element this May with the arrival of the first ever Melbourne edition of the Italian Wine & Food Festival.
The one-day festival at Carlton’s Royal Exhibition Building on Sunday May 29 will run from morning until night, with an attractive line-up of events including live pasta and mozzarella making, wine and olive oil workshops, sommelier tours and Gourmet Traveller‘s very own Food Market.
Highlights include food talks and cooking demonstrations from such chefs as Melbourne’s Johnny Di Francesco from 400 Gradi and Sydney’s Nino Zoccali among others.
Zoccali, chef and owner of Pendolino, said it was fantastic to see a Melbourne extension of the festival in conjunction with a growing interest in Italian wine.
“Interest in Italian wine at the minute is unparalleled, and the festival is a great opportunity to experience and learn about some of the best and most interesting wines in the world.”
More than 250 of Italy’s finest drops andwines made from Australian-grown Italian grapes will be on pour, and GT wine editor Max Allen will be presenting masterclasses.
There will also be fresh coffee from Espresso di Manfredi’s baristas, beer on tap at the Menabrea Birra Bar and spritzes served all day at the pop-up Bar Americano by acclaimed mixologist Matt Bax.
To round out the day, live Italian jazz music will be played in the wine garden, while a DJ will take over at night to play Italian vinyl as festivalgoers unwind.
