Francophiles will feel nostalgic as soon as they open the door: a traditional comptoir on one side is laden with French liquor, while a room-length red banquette with snug, white-clothed tables fills the other. Chef Shannon Kellam, a two-time finalist at Bocuse d'Or, is equally faithful to tradition. French onion soup, a crab and Gruyère soufflé, and crumbed brains all feature here. But he's also adventurous enough to mix things up, particularly on boundary-pushing Friday Supper Club nights. Imaginative entrées feature seared cuttlefish with cucumber and a tomato and dill dressing, or cold-smoked Mooloolaba yellowfin tuna with broccoli and yuzu, dusted with rye and spelt crumbs, while main courses include steak frites with a sharp green peppercorn sauce. Grand Marnier brûlée with chocolate hazelnut mousse and strawberry sorbet is an order worth placing, while the lengthy French wine list offers temptations for every pocket and occasion.
