Alla Wolf-Tasker AM’s beautiful lakeside resort started life over 40 years ago as a small country restaurant, then expanded to luxury accommodation and a brilliant spa set among 2.5 hectares of lush gardens. The exceptional restaurant at Lake House remains the heart and soul of the property, especially now that much of the produce being used is grown nearby on their own Dairy Flat Farm.
The rooms
The 33 spacious studios and suites and two villas, some with outdoor spas, are reached by meandering paths and decked walkways that wind through the gardens, making even the experience of being shown to your room enchanting. The rooms continue the vibe, their plush, cocoon-like comfort bolstered by excellent linen, cashmere throws and a minibar stocked to showcase the best of the region from local spirits and wine, to beer and snacks.
Food & drink
Lunch and dinner at the Lake House restaurant are central to the experience of staying here, the menu painting a seasonal portrait of the local region sketched through food. It’s also the venue for breakfast, a mix of buffet and à la carte with staples including fresh bread, eggs and honey all sourced from Dairy Flat Farm. A drink on the poolside terrace or in the sublimely cosy Argyle Library Bar should also make your must-do list.
The service
The dial here, from reception to restaurant, is set to calm, friendly and intuitive — just as you’d hope for in this serene country house-like setting.
Ideal for: Romantic getaways and family gatherings
Why we love it:
- The food. The two-hatted Lake House Restaurant offers beautiful, modern, seasonal food matched with local wines.
- The spa. Salus Spa is set amongst the treetops and offers thermal body rituals and Ayurvedic facials.
- Aperitivo by the pool. Enjoy a signature Negroni, Elderberry Spritz or local Vermouth while admiring the views over Lake Daylesford.
