Saint Peter in Sydney and Amisfield Restaurant in Queenstown have both placed in The World’s 50 Best extended 51–100 list overnight. The awards are recognised as one of the most influential in the world, featuring restaurants and culinary experiences from across six continents.
Josh and Julia Niland’s relocated seafood fine diner in Paddington has once again made its way onto the prestigious list, representing Australia at number 66; while New Zealand’s Queenstown made its first-ever appearance, with chef Vaughan Mabee’s efforts placing Amisfield at 99. Given the list trawls the pointiest end of dining, both restaurants’ recognition emphasises the strength of both Australia and New Zealand on a global stage.
Saint Peter’s place on the list is particularly impressive, given the jump from 98th last year right up to 66 in 2025. It makes sense given the restaurant’s move and long-awaited redux, complete with an elegant new 40-seat dining room at The Grand National Hotel, which is joined by a more casual 30-seat bar, private dining room and a boutique hotel above.

“Seeing Saint Peter climb a massive 32 places to their current 66th ranking this year is testament to the hard work of that truly exceptional team,” the awards’ Academy Chair for Oceania, Alexandra Carlton, tells Gourmet Traveller. “And then Amisfield – the first restaurant from New Zealand Aotearoa to make the list? What a huge accomplishment. This will do such great things for all Australian and Kiwi restaurants and bars, across the board. All of us should be very proud.”
There are other Australian-adjacent appearances on the list, too, with the France-based, Australian-born chef James Henry’s Le Doyenné coming in at 77; while Singapore’s Burnt Ends sees Perth-born chef Dave Pynt return to the list, this year coming in at 93rd.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list is voted for by 1120 international restaurant industry experts who make up The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, including Gourmet Traveller contributor Alexandra Carlton, who officially chairs the Oceania region.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants (1–50) for 2025 will be announced imminently, with the ceremony being held at Lingotto Fiere in Turin, Italy on Thursday, 19 June.
