As The Eve finally opened her doors in February, it marked the end of an ambitious 10-year journey, transforming a derelict shopping centre in Redfern into a glamorous five-star hotel and dining precinct. The result is one of Sydney’s great property glow-ups.
The moment you catch sight of her rust-coloured curves, you’ll be forced to admit; she’s a looker. Inside, things get even better as architect firm SJB marries elegant arched hallways and custom glazed ceramics to deliver maximum contrast and wow factor. Interior details by George Livissianis and artwork curated by David Stein bring an extra layer of sophisticated quirk. A rooftop pool, surrounded by shaded cabanas, brings urban resort glamour to the precinct, while a plethora of first-class dining options ensures The Eve caters to both locals and visitors alike.
The rooms
The warmth of timber paired with deep olive (or burnt terracotta, depending on your room) accents welcome you to each of the 102 guest rooms. Those seeking sprawling square footage won’t find it here, but the tidy, sleek space is filled with considered luxuries – including custom Saardé toiletries, GHD hairdryers, and lush hooded robes. Plus, a tasty snack bar filled with locally produced treats.
Food & drink
Dining across the Wunderlich Lane precinct is set to be the key drawcard for this property, with Sydney’s discerning diners already flocking to Olympus. On the roof, Lottie serves up sophisticated Mexican bites, while downstairs, Bar Julius brings big city glamour to the hotel’s all-day dining offering.
The service
Whether you arrive in the basement carpark (where friendly valet attendants will helpfully wave you in and unload your car) or walk in at street level, you’ll be met with polish and warmth at The Eve Hotel.
Ideal for: Staycation glamour
Why we love it:
- The precinct. The key to a good urban resort is not having to drive anywhere. Everything you need to enjoy a weekend (or mid-week) escape is right on your doorstep – including top dining, spa treatments, and more.
- The serenity. Superb acoustic design ensures a peaceful night’s sleep, no matter how lively the surrounding precinct.
- Bar Julius. Whether you’re enjoying quality batch brew coffee and a classic French omelette or indulging in a demi-bottle of Krug with complimentary caviar at Happy Hour ($250), Bar Julius is a vibe – in large part thanks to the arched Barrisol ceiling by artist Louise Olsen.
