REVIEW
This is Sydney’s little black dress of dining. Almost 20 years on, Bambini Trust still attracts a mix of corporate executives, legal eagles and magazine editors who flock here for a heart-starting ristretto at breakfast, or hearty Italian-inspired fare at lunch and dinner. The restaurant, set in an historic building opposite Hyde Park, spans two spaces: wood-panelled den on one side, convivial bar on the other. The menu is concise yet the plates are substantial. Pappardelle with wagyu ragù and sweet scampi with tarragon butter are both satisfying starts. Milly Hill Farm lamb, served with nutty farro and a purée of red capsicum, is another reliable option. Barramundi poached in crab broth is arrayed with clams, mussels and calamari in a typically generous plate. To finish, the flourless chocolate cake with mandarin ice-cream and caramel sauce is hard to beat. Big flavours, good ingredients and confident cooking never go out of fashion.
