REVIEW
There’s a touch of garden-shed chic about Tomah Gardens restaurant, but that’s half the charm of a rustic space that’s furnished with upcycled tables and chairs and a pot-bellied fireplace. It’s comfortable, which is just as well, because after the drive you’ll want to settle in and enjoy the view and a menu of Sunday-fare classics complemented with a tidy wine list of regional drops and craft beers. The genius of the place, however, lies in taste transcending tradition, all thanks to produce-perfectionist chef Sean Moran. The roast chicken is a crisp-skinned, lip-smacking meal replete with caramelised carrots, corn, spuds and full-bodied gravy. The pork and fennel pot pies are steamy, hearty and give true meaning to the term comfort food. Desserts are a nod to the nannas, offering tangy yet sweet blackberry jelly with honey ice-cream and a light-as-a-cloud angel cake. Comfort, freshness, purity and a warm welcome all wrapped in one.
