REVIEW
Check those preconceptions at the door. Sure, there are aspects of Ku De Ta Perth that recall the mothership in Bali (the waterside location, those clubby beats, Bintang for days) yet Ku De Ta’s first international spin-off is more than a giant sunlounge. The sprawling deck, for instance, serves breakfast and Italian comfort food while the West bar champions Australian seafood, tapas and smallgoods. Then there’s Ku Dining, a black-and-gold dining room where local produce and polished technique rule. Playful numbers like Iced VoVo petits fours and “Mr Lim’s No 44” (lemon chicken reimagined as elegant lemon-pepper fried quail) tip the Akubra to local culture. Other Asian influences go way beyond nasi goreng: see a lush bone marrow and duck-egg chawanmushi topped with XO pipis. Service, although enthusiastic, is still finding its feet. It’s not a deal-breaker, though, especially if you’re busy downing snappy cocktails and easy-going wines.
